From Short-Term Projects to Long-Term Partnerships: How Four Square Group Becomes a Strategic Partner

Four Square Group

In the ever-evolving world of logistics and supply chain management, companies often seek quick solutions to complex challenges. Whether it’s a targeted training initiative, migrating to cloud-based software, or conducting a detailed transportation analysis, the goals are usually well-defined and project-based. However, at Four Square Group (FSG), we’ve noticed a trend that’s reshaping how we engage with our clients. What starts as a focused project frequently evolves into a strategic partnership, where we become fractional leaders within our clients’ organizations.

Two recent success stories illustrate this shift.

Client A: Migrating Systems and Elevating Strategies

Client A, a leading beverage distributor in the United States, initially approached FSG with a specific need: transitioning from their on-premise solution, Roadnet Transportation Suite (RTS), to Roadnet Anywhere (RNA), a cloud-based alternative. While RTS had served them well, rapid growth through acquisitions meant they needed to streamline operations across an expanding network of distribution centers.

Our team conducted a proof of concept in their largest market, demonstrating that RNA could meet their complex needs. This initial project expanded into a multi-year engagement to migrate all their distribution centers from RTS to RNA. Along the way, we integrated newly acquired companies into their logistics ecosystem, managing complex migrations with minimal disruption.

As our relationship deepened, our role evolved beyond migrations. We began working on advanced data analytics, visualizing key performance indicators, and developing Power BI solutions. By creating an Azure data lake housing extensive historical data, we enabled Client A to analyze Plan vs. Actual performance and chain store analytics with unprecedented clarity. What started as a migration project transformed into a long-term partnership, providing ongoing strategic insights that drive their operations today.

Client B: From Training to Multi-Million Dollar Savings

In 2022, Client B, a national distributor in the pet food industry, reached out to FSG with a straightforward request: train their transportation leadership team to use Roadnet Anywhere more effectively. While the training was successful, we quickly recognized a larger opportunity. Their Chicago facility relied entirely on third-party transportation, and they were evaluating a shift to company-owned vehicles and drivers.

At their invitation, we conducted a detailed analysis and discovered that converting to company-owned equipment could save them over $1 million annually. Since implementing this change, they’ve exceeded expectations, with projected savings now nearing $2 million—significantly more than our initial forecast. Our partnership didn’t stop there. We’ve continued to provide strategic market analytics, identifying over $1 million in additional potential savings across their distribution network. Today, we manage all their strategic planning efforts using Roadnet products, far exceeding the scope of the initial training project.

From Projects to Partnerships

At Four Square Group, we’re seeing a significant shift from being hired for one-off projects to becoming trusted strategic partners. Our hands-on approach and deep understanding of logistics and transportation software mean we’re often pulled into broader discussions about strategy and long-term planning. As our clients grow and evolve, so does our role within their organizations.

Businesses today need more than transactional consulting services. They need partners who can grow with them, offer strategic insight, and provide ongoing leadership. We’re proud to be that partner, helping clients not only solve today’s challenges but also prepare for tomorrow’s opportunities.
